RGA head sets score to beat for March Ace
Refaluwasch Golf Association president Ray Tigilau moved closer to bagging the RGA March Ace after ruling the qualifying tournament early this month at the Kingfisher Golf Links.
Tigilau shot a net 71 in the qualifier, showing consistency at the Talafofo course with his 42s on the front and back nines. The RGA head holds a 13 handicap and deducting this from his gross score of 84, he ended up six strokes ahead of Rep. Tony Benavente and Manny Mangarero.
With the win in the March 9 tournament, Tigilau sets the score to beat in this Sunday’s competition, also at Kingfisher. If no RGA member scores better than 71 in the event that has a show time at 11am, Tigilau will secure the March Ace.
Meanwhile, Benavente won over Mangarero in the tiebreak for second place. The two golfers carded similar net scores of 77 with the 7-handicapper Benavente firing 42s on both nines and the 8-handicapper Mangarero registering a 42 in the first nine holes and 43 in the last. The lawmaker also won the closest to the pin contests on par 3 holes—No. 6 and 15.
Joining Tigilau, Benavente, and Mangarero in the qualifier were February Ace Sonny Flores (81), Tom Tebuteb (82), Tars Olopai (83), Asterio Tawanpiy (83), Joe Saures (87), and Nick Leone Guerrero (90).
