William Retardo and Ruben Avendano were declared Filtaga Golfers Association’s April Aces of the Month for the A and B divisions, respectively, after the conclusion of the club’s monthly event last Sunday at the Marianas Country Club.
Retardo started out with an even 40 at the turn and came into the clubhouse with a 36 for a field low gross count of 76 that worked into a 69 net total.
April’s A Division winner really did bring his A-game on Sunday and blazed the trail to finish six strokes ahead of the pack.
Rene Batallones managed an 82 raw card, which was good for second place in the A class with a 73 net score. Dennis Sebastian grossed an 85 and finished tied with Batallones with a 73 net total, but settled for third place via the handicap tiebreaker rule. A total of 11 players made up the A Division.
B Division winner Avendano, meanwhile, scratched a 47 on the front nine and finished the back with a 48 for a gross tally of 95 that calculated into a net score of 66 that topped nine other golfers.
His 29 handicap held up against runner-up Jess Yumul (69 net) and third placer Richard Meimban (71 net).
Players with a 0 to 16 handicap are placed in the A field, while players with handicaps ranging from 17 to 32 being grouped in the B division.
The pair joins March Ace Paul Bea, February Ace Randy Tudela, and January’s co-Aces Richard Atalig and James Mitchell. Filtaga awards co-winners when the turnout exceeds 20 participants.
Monthly aces receive a $150 cash prize and automatic entrance into its season-ending Golfer of the Year Tournament held every January; $300 cash prizes are also awarded for sinking a hole-in-one.
The annual membership fee is $50, exclusive of monthly green fees. Filtaga uses a USGA approved handicap system posted on their website, www.filtaga.com, which features computer-based scoring calculations. Visit their Facebook page to view photos of recent events.
Filtaga events are held once a month, usually on the third Sunday.
