Rent finally comes to Saipan

A Pulitzer- and Tony Award-winning, bohemian rock musical of 43 songs, complex arrangements, and drama, Rent is a major production that follows a group of young people through a year in their lives of love amongst struggles. Originally a Broadway show, Rent was recently released as a major motion picture staring Rosario Dawson and Jesse Martin, to name a few. This year, Rent finally comes to Saipan.

Central to the story are Mark and Roger, roommates in New York City’s East village. Mark documents the tumultuous year in film, with he and his group of unconventional friends and lovers as they show how much changes or does not change between them in the 525,600 minutes that make a year.

At the musical direction of Friends of the Arts board member Paul Pajua, Emily Jones, Rolando Sangalang, Simi Charfarous, John Huevos, Dianne Hermogenes, and Darren Cajipos have been hard at work, perfecting the harmony that tells the story of these friends.

The show will be on Feb. 28, March 1, and 2 at PIC’s Charley’s. Prices are: adults $15, FoA members $12, students $8. Magellan dinner buffet is available for an additional cost. To get tickets, call Frank Gibson at 287-7476. (FOA)
