The Department of Public Safety confirmed yesterday that the remains found near Obyan Beach on Monday were that of the missing 18-year-old Traina Suda Jack.

DPS Commissioner James C. Deleon Guerrero said that, using a photograph that shows dental features, Guam chief medical examiner Dr. Aurelio Espinola positively identified the remains as that of Jack, a Chuuk native, who went missing on Oct. 22, 2014.

DPS acting spokesman Jason Tarkong said yesterday that Jack was last seen at her residence by family members four days earlier, Oct. 22, 2014, at about 6pm.

Tarkong said family returned later that night and Jack was not at home. After two days, the family started asking friends and family members if they have seen her, with no success.

On Oct. 26, 2014, Jack’s mother filed an official missing person’s complaint with DPS.

Jack’s cellular phone was left at a family member’s house in San Antonio, police said.

Commonwealth Bureau of Investigation detectives conducted a search, but she was never found.

Dr. Espinola’s autopsy on the remains on Tuesday did not reveal any type of identifiable trauma such as fracture, stab, or gunshot.

Espinola, however, stated that further microscopic analysis on bone fragments from the skull is needed to determine the cause of death.

It was 40-year-old Jeffrey Diaz who found the skeletal remains and called the police on Monday at 12:30pm. Diaz works as a cattle manager at the farm of rancher Ernest Torres and was preparing for a grazing spot for the farm’s cows when he stumbled upon the remains.

Diaz found the remains in the jungle area about 15 feet from the shoulder of the road, located across the Torres farm.

The site where the remains were found was about 300 to 400 feet from the intersection to the main entrance to Obyan Beach.

Police said DPS crime scene technicians collected women’s clothing within the general location of the remains.
