Red Sox upsets Ol’Aces, 11-8

The Bank of Saipan Red Sox (6-2) shocked top-ranked Hawaiya Technologies, Inc. Ol’Aces (7-1), 11-8, in Sunday’s Saipan Little League Baseball Junior Division matchup at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.
Also on Sunday, the Junior Division’s Saipan Shipping Company-Jets (3-5) routed the IT&E Fielders (3-5), 16-6, and the DPS Dare Program-Leep Enforcers (3-5) pummeled the Kagman Lions (0-7), 19-1, in five innings.
Natibu Sports Association Talaabwogh Falcons are also right in the mix in the Junior Division with its win-loss slate of 3-4
Meanwhile, in Saturday’s Senior Division tripleheader, the still undefeated Docomo Pacific-Ol’Aces (10-0) triumphed over the Rep. Antonio Sablan-Eliceo D. Cabrera-Hunters (6-5), 9-5; the IT&E-Fielders (8-3) blew out the DPS Dare Program-Enforcers (2-7), 19-4; and Juan Santiago’s Jets II (8-3) bested sister team Saipan Shipping Company Jets I (2-9), 17-14.
Natibu Talaabwogh Falcons (6-3), meanwhile, is currently in fourth place ahead of fifth seeded Marianas Cable Vision-Rep. Ramon S. Basa-Frederick P. DL Guerrero-Kagman Lions (3-6) and the winless D-9ers (0-7).
JUNIOR DIVISION
Red Sox 11, Ol’Aces 8
The Red Sox tallied six runs in the first inning off four hits, which included a trio of RBI singles by Jerald Cabrera, Roke Tenorio, and Nathan Camacho, but Ol’Aces roared back with four hits of their own in the second to briefly pull within a run.
The Red Sox, however, added two more runs off wild pitches in the bottom of the inning to shift the count to 8-5.
Ol’Aces mustered a run in the top of the third off an error, but were held scoreless through the next three frames.
The Red Sox, on the other hand, produced two runs in the fourth inning from an error and an RBI base smash by M.J. Sakisat that drove home Camacho.
Red Sox’s Jobe Reyes then singled in Cabrera in the sixth inning and the group contained Ol’Aces to just two runs in the final stand.
Red Sox’s Cabrera swung 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs. Both teams went through three pitchers.
Jets 16, Fielders 6
Jets pitcher Ben Maratita held it down on the mound for six strong innings and gave up just two runs off seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
At the plate his teammates managed an early 3-0 lead in the first inning off two hits and some errors. Maratita bagged an RBI single.
Fielders’ Jerry Kintol made it around in the bottom of the third, but the Jets added four runs in the fourth off three hits as Devyn Flores ripped a two-RBI base knock.
The Fielders moved around its final run in the fifth and the count shifted to 9-2 after six innings as the Jets put up two runs off an error and a wild pitch.
The Jets finished strong with seven runs in the seventh off five hits as Greg Sablan, Flores, and Franco Nakamura all nabbed RBIs.
Maratita handed the ball to Flores to get the last three outs and he managed to get it done, despite a late four-run surge by the Fielders.
Jets’ Nakamura batted 3-for-4 with two triples, an RBI, three runs, and a base on balls. Fielders’ Kainoa Wanket went 3-for-3 with two runs and a base on ball.
Enforcers 19, Lions 1
Enforcers pitcher Cedric Camacho held the Lions to just one run off four hits and four walks with five strikeouts through four innings.
Offensively, 11 out of the Enforcers’ dozen-man roster all came away with hits during the game where the bulk of the damage occurred in the middle innings.
Enforcers’ Camacho broke the ice himself in the first inning and his teammates added five more runs in the second off four hits and an RBI poke by Franklin Lizama.
The Lions scored its lone run in the bottom frame from an RBI single by Perry Celis, but the Enforcers trudged ahead, 11-1, in the third inning off four hits and some errors.
They never looked back and piled on six more runs in the fourth off another eight hits and added two more for good measure in the top of the fifth inning from a big smash by Darrion Jones.
Robbie Solis bagged an RBI single, Camacho busted an RBI double, and Caleb Takao went around on a two-RBI base smash in the fourth inning.
Enforcers’ Camacho batted 3-for-3 with an RBI, three runs, two stolen bases, and two base on balls.
SENIOR DIVISION
Ol’Aces 9, Hunters 5
Ol’Aces pulled in front, 3-2, in the second inning with an RBI single by Tiger Yatsui that scored Lancaster Secharmidal then followed it up with a triple by Paul Bowie.
The Hunters came back and tied it briefly in the third off an error and took the lead, 5-3, in the fourth thanks to a pass ball and a fielder’s choice.
Ol’Aces did not answer in the bottom frame, but sent A.J. Lizama to the mound in relief for Frankie Camacho to start the fifth inning.
Lizama pulled the plug on the Hunters offense and his teammates mustered a clutch six-run rally in the fifth for the win.
Some early errors set up an RBI single by Ken Taguchi and a two-RBI base rip by Lizama.
Lizama held strong on the mound and secured the save. He gave up zero hits with seven strikeouts through the last three frames.
Ol’Aces’ Jun Rabauliman batted 3-for-4 with a run and a stolen base.
Fielders 19, Enforcers 4
Enforcers lost the handle off a 3-1 lead from the first inning after a trio of hits by the Fielders in the second inning. Gayvan Uchau and Joe Kilelelman bagged RBI singles.
Fielders pitcher Cody Kaipat settled down on the mound after the early hiccup and shut down the Enforcers in the next four frames.
The Fielders went on to double them up, 6-3, in the third inning with a triple by Ian Rogolifoi and an RBI base rip by Khobby Kaipat.
Fielders’ Poland Masaharu sprinted around for an inside-the-park homer that started off the fifth inning. Four other runs came home off errors, an RBI walk, and a two-RBI smash by Cody Kaipat.
The Fielders piled on eight more runs in the sixth off six hits and some untimely walks. Khobby Kaipat and Jared Lizama bagged RBI singles, Davin Ada cranked a two-RBI triple, and Cody Kaipat belted a two-RBI base rip. The Enforcers responded with only one run in its final stand.
Winning pitcher Cody Kaipat gave up one earned run off zero hits, six walks, and a bean ball with seven strikeouts through 5 2/3 innings.
Fielders’ Masaharu batted 3-for-3 with an RBI, four runs, a stolen base, and two base on balls. Cody Kaipat went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run.
Jets II 17, Jets I 14
Jets I led it, 6-2, after three innings and remained at the helm, 10-9, after the fourth inning.
Jets I worked around its first two runs in the opening frame from a sacrifice fly and an RBI single by Jordan Taitano.
Jets II’s Jeffrey Lizama answered with an RBI double in the bottom frame and his teammate Kyloe Hocog drew a walk and stole home in the second to knot the match at 2-all.
But Jets I quickly loaded the bases in the third and brought in four runs off an error, an RBI walk, and a two-RBI base rip by Mathew Maeda.
They then added four more runs in the fourth off three hits and some errors before Jets II finally got things going in the bottom frame.
Jets II came back to within a run primarily with patience at the plate. They drew seven walks and only came away with two hits in the uprising.
Jets I went ahead, 14-10, after the fifth as its rival also struggled to find the strike zone. However, the latter somehow managed to put up seven runs to close the sixth and held on for the win.
Jets II delivered six hits in the clutch including a two-RBI single by Ray Tenorio, an RBI base hit by Jesus Santos, and a three-run inside-the-parker by Jonathan Villagomez.
Jets I was stood up in both the sixth and seventh frames by Jets II closer Jeffrey Lizama. He was the fourth pitcher they sent to the hump.
