Taking advantage of the summer break, PDM Promoters Inc. did a rare Monday cleanup of Paseo de Marianas and its surrounding environs for its scheduled monthly cleanup, collecting a total of 300 lbs. of trash.

The group usually does its cleanups on a Saturday but Sonia Siwa, the non-profit group’s coordinator, said they did the Monday cleanup instead since members of the Saipan Awaodori Team, which usually participates in the cleanup, are having their summer break and will not be available during the weekend.

A total of 32 volunteers took part in the monthly cleanup: 24 members of the Saipan Awaodori Team and eight employees of Kinpachi Restaurant.

The cleanup started at 9am and covered the usual areas of Paseo de Marianas, Coral Tree Avenue, American Memorial Park Road, Beach Road, and connecting alleyways.

Siwa said PDM Promoters had a 7-year-old Japanese visitor, Riria Kaneko, who joined the cleanup.

“It’s nice to see these kids regularly volunteering for our cleanup. It’s also a bonus that they’re having fun doing it and enjoying the company of each other,” she said.

PDM Promoters’ monthly cleanups are supported by the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality and the non-profit’s major sponsors, T-Galleria and TSL Foundation.

T-Galleria and TSL Foundation’s support enables PDM Promoters to have the cleaning materials needed for their monthly cleanups. Kinpachi Restaurant, meanwhile, provides the meal and snacks for the volunteers.

Volunteers of PDM Promoters will be at it again in August when it conducts its next monthly cleanup of 2019.
