Xiu Zhen Qiu, an 8th grade student from Admiral Herbert G. Hopwood Junior High School, has won the school level National Geographic Bee. Qiu competed against 34 other students for the top spot and was followed by Princess Galzote who came in second place.

The National Geographic Bee consisted of seven rigorous rounds of geography based questions. Thousands of schools around the United States and its territories are participating in their own school level 2016 Bee. The school champion will take a qualifying test to determine whether he will be eligible to compete in the state bee on April 1, 2016. State winners will then compete at the National level in Washington, D.C., which will air on the National Geographic Channel and PBS.

The Hopwood Junior High School Geography was administered by Mr. Jesse Sablan, Ms. Jillian Pladevega, and Mrs. Tatiana Olopai with support from Hopwood principal Jonas Barcinas. (PR)
