The public is being warned that there is a high risk of rip currents through 6am today, Thursday.

Based on the information received from the National Weather Service in Guam and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center-State Warning Point, dangerous rip currents will be present in east facing reefs of the Marianas. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

Ipan buoy and model guidance continue to indicate a large east swell due to fresh to strong trade winds, which will keep the rip current risk high along east facing reefs through 6am today. After, the seas should trend downwards before the risk of rip currents becomes moderate.

The public is advised to stay out of the water along east facing reefs. Elsewhere, swim near a lifeguard.(PR)
