A developing monsoon pattern will bring periods of heavy rain across the Marianas the next few days. Torrential rains could lead to flash flooding in low-lying and poor-drainage areas on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.

Based on information received from the National Weather Service in Guam and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center-State Warning Point, a flash flood watch is in effect through Thursday afternoon.

Heavy showers and thunderstorms associated with the monsoon will affect the islands the next few days. Rainfall of 3 to 5 inches with locally heavier amounts are possible through Thursday.

Residents of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota are being advised to turn around and not risk driving through flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.
