A large north swell from former Typhoon Choi-Wan will produce high surf for the next few days, according to the CNMI Emergency Operations Center.

A high surf advisory remains in effect until 6pm Saturday. Expect hazardous surf of 9 to 12 feet along north facing reefs today, Thursday, will diminish to 8 to 10 feet on Friday. Surf is expected to remain hazardous through Saturday.

A small craft advisory remains in effect until 6pm today. Seas of 9 to 10 feet will produce hazardous conditions for operators of small craft today, Thursday. Seas should fall to below 10 feet by this evening.

The public is being advised to avoid venturing near exposed reefs and beaches. Those operating smaller vessels should avoid boating in these conditions. If travel by boat is necessary avoid sailing near reef lines and shoaling areas. Exercise caution when entering or leaving harbors and inlets as breaking waves can easily capsize a vessel. (HSEM)
