A high surf advisory is in effect from 6pm last night until 5pm today, Tuesday. There is also a high rip current risk in effect through this afternoon.

Based on the information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center State Warning Point, large breaking waves of 8 to 11 feet expected in the surf zone on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota in north and west facing reefs of Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan until 5pm today. For the high rip current risk, dangerous rip currents expected.

These will create dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

Residents of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota are urged to avoid venturing near reef lines facing north and west. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. (PR)
