Public warned of high surf and choppy seas
A small craft advisory remains in effect until 6am today, Tuesday, while a high surf advisory is now in effect until 6am Wednesday.
Based on the information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center State Warning Point, southwest winds of 15 to 25 knots and seas of 7 to 10 feet are present along Marianas coastal waters until 6am today. Conditions will be hazardous to small craft.
Multiple swells generated by the remnants of Surigae and a large mid-latitude low pressure will produce large, choppy seas and prolong hazardous surf conditions for the next couple of days. These sea conditions will make the operation of small craft difficult.
Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, are advised to avoid navigating in hazardous conditions.
Hazardous surf of 8 to 12 feet and dangerous rip currents are present along west and north facing reefs until 6 am Wednesday.
Large breaking waves can knock you down and cause serious injuries. Strong rip currents can drag you out to sea.
Residents of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota are advised to avoid venturing near reef lines facing north and west. It will be risky to swim or snorkel in these conditions. (PR)
