Public warned of high surf, strong winds
Based on the information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, and compiled at the CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management, a north and northeast swell will produce hazardous surf along north facing reefs through today, Wednesday.
A high surf advisory remains in effect until 6pm today along north facing reefs.
Surf will be hazardous at 7 to 9 feet today. Surf is expected to fall below hazardous limits by this evening.
A small craft advisory remains in effect until 6pm Thursday.
Northeast winds at 25 to 30 knots and combined seas of 10 to 12 feet will produce hazardous conditions for operators of small craft through Wednesday. Winds and seas will diminish slightly on Thursday but will still be hazardous.
Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid boating in these conditions. If travel by boat is necessary exercise caution especially near reef lines and when entering or leaving harbors and inlets. Avoid venturing near exposed reefs and beaches, especially those facing north as rip currents will be life threatening.
Northeast winds of 25 to 35 mph will persist through the day then diminish slightly to 20 to 30 mph through Thursday. Gusts may reach 40 mph within showers.
A wind advisory remains in effect until 6pm Thursday.
Winds of 30 mph or more are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult especially for high profile vehicles such as a truck with a shipping container on it. Use extra caution. Bring small loose items indoors. Take down canopies and awnings that are susceptible to wind damage. (HSEM)
