The Information Technology Center at the Joeten Kiyu Public Library will be offering a new computer and technology learning class throughout this summer as part of the library’s annual signature Summer Literacy Program.

Think about what it takes to make it in the career world. Have you ever wondered what it is like to work in an office? Do you have what it takes to become marketable and competitive in today’s digitally-driven workplace? Want to improve your technology skills so that you can be employed as a young emerging professional or to get that second job to earn that additional income as a retiree?

Similar to a mock office experience, the classes involve applying computer skills in an office environment, such as file sharing, emailing files in the proper format, and having software version awareness that would enable a participant to understand how and why proper file formats are important. Classes will also include office scenarios where a participant will cover some basic skills in the use of office hardware like printers, copiers, and scanners. Another important aspect of the classes is performing actual office presentations that include setting up a projector, developing the presentation file, and document handouts, and team building involved when working with coworkers on a presentation. This class is in addition to the regular free Saturday computer classes year-round.

A registration fee of $10 is required to save a slot of one class at two hours per day for four days total. The maximum 16 seats are available per class based on a first-pay, first-serve basis. Two classes are held each day with Class 1 from 12pm to 2:00pm and Class 2 from 3pm to 5pm. Registration is ongoing at the JKPL Information Technology Center. No refunds if you are unable to attend.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CLASS

* You must have a library card with no pending library fines.
* English: oral, reading, and writing.
* Minimal typing/computer experience.
* Age range: junior high to adults.
