Public invited to NMC’s Charter Day celebration tonight
To celebrate student achievement, employee contributions, and the founding of the institution, the Northern Marianas College is inviting the community to its Charter Day celebration tonight, May 16, 2014.
Cultural dancers perform in the Northern Marianas College’s 2013 Charter Day celebration. This year’s Charter Day celebration will be on Friday, May 16, 2014, from 5pm to 10pm at the NMC South Field in As Terlaje, and all members of the community are invited to attend. (NMC)
The theme of this year’s Charter Day celebration is “Full Speed Ahead” in reference not only to the college’s recent news of its accreditation being reaffirmed earlier this year but the desire to keep this momentum and dedication to excellence going.
“Charter Day is important not only because it commemorates the founding of NMC but it also allows the community to join our faculty, staff, and students in recognizing and celebrating the years of positively impacting the lives of so many people in the community,” said Charter Day planning chair and NMC student Ervin Cruz. “We are extremely happy with the support we have received from the community members, including many local companies.”
The celebration will kick off at 5pm and continue until 10pm at the NMC South Field across from the NMC Gym in As Terlaje.
The event will feature various entertainment and competitions, including the Marianas Idol singing contest, Battle of the Bands, and the Hi-Lux Truck & Sport Compact Car Show.
Numerous vendors will also be selling delicious food and drinks, as well as hosting game booths, including Hulu Girl, Shirley’s Coffee Shop, Fong’s Bakery, Aunty Mag’s Catering, Matty’s Barbeque, Poon’s Restaurant, Herman’s Modern Bakery, Lyn’s BBQ, Sweet Escape Bakery, Roberto’s Café & Restaurant, and much more.
As part of its commitment to promote healthy habits, sugary drinks will not be sold at Charter Day. This includes sodas, or other drinks with high sugar content. Note that water and coconut juice (in nut) will be sold at the event.
