A House committee is looking to hold a public hearing this week on a Senate bill that seeks to extend maximum initial lease terms.

The House Committee on Natural Resources, led by chair Rep. Alice Igitol (R-Saipan), said that Senate President Arnold I. Palacios’ (R-Saipan) Senate Bill 20-35, which seeks to bump the maximum initial lease term of 25 years to 40 years, would be up for public comments on June 4 in the House chamber on Capital Hill at 5:30pm.

The bill was adopted by the committee in their May 18 committee meeting with a vote of 4-3, with Reps. Donald Barcinas (R-Saipan), Edmund Villagomez (Ind-Saipan), and Jose Itibus (R-Saipan) voting against its passage without first holding a public hearing.
