The Public School System will be holding the Goodwill Girls Volleyball Tournament on Rota next month.
According to PSS Athletic Program coordinator Nick Gross, they will bring Kagman High School, Saipan Southern High School, Marianas High School, and Tinian High School teams to Rota to play in friendly games. Rota and Tinian failed to field squads in the PSS Interscholastic Girls High School Volleyball Tournament that concluded last week.
“We’re bringing over Kagman, Southern, Marianas High, and Tinian High School students to Rota because Tinian and Rota weren’t able to make it to our volleyball tournament this year,” Gross said.
The goodwill event was scheduled for Oct. 26, but has been pushed back to Nov. 22 due to Typhoon Buoloi that posed a threat to the Marianas last week.
“We’re going to go to Rota on Nov. 22 to have two days of goodwill volleyball play. Star Marianas is doing a lot to transport our students and it’s just difficult to get enough commutes to get teams over and everything in a succinct way,” Gross said.
The PSS staff also mentioned that the tournament will incorporate a sort of mental health discussion among high school students in the CNMI.
“We will be doing a lock in because we’re also treating this as a mental health opportunity to get a real good cross section of all three islands communities and the teenagers together. We’re going to have campfire chats,” Gross said.
