Public School System scored another lopsided win in the 2014 JP World Corp. Customer Appreciation Basketball League after crushing Docomo Pacific, 84-37, in the second game of the double header last Friday night at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.

The 47-point winning margin surpassed PSS’ previous season-high record of 40, which it registered against Commonwealth Utilities Corp. (91-51) last Oct. 13. The Bob Coldeen Sr.-coached team prevailed in the one-sided match, as Docomo was held to single digit in scoring in three quarters and tallied only 12 points in the forgettable second half.

Docomo, despite is depleted lineup, remained in contention after the first period with PSS ahead by only nine, 18-9, and was still in the game at the break, facing a manageable 12-point deficit, 25-37, before disaster struck the telecommunication company in the third period.
Docomo scored only 4 points in the third-period letdown with Robert Sanciangco recording all of the team’s points off a field goal and two free throws. PSS, on the other hand, earned 25 markers, its biggest output in a quarter after logging 18 and 19 in the first two periods, to pad its lead to 33—four points more than Docomo’s total output as the scoreboard flashed the 62-29 tally.

While only Sanciangco hit the board for Docomo in the gloomy third period, seven players scored for PSS with four of them knocking in at least two baskets apiece. PSS kept sharing the wealth in the fourth quarter and played no let up despite a huge lead, while Docomo’s nightmare continued as it made only two field goals and 8 points.

Only Sanciango and Tony Diaz nailed baskets for Docomo in the uneventful fourth quarter with the former adding 6 more markers off a triple and three straight charities and the latter chipping in a 2-point field goal. Diaz went on to lead all scorers with his 14 points, but Docomo still dropped to a 0-5 record to remain at the cellar of the nine-team field. Sanciangco also finished in twin digits with his 10 markers, while Condrad Sablan and Jaynard White were the other two scorers for Docomo, contributing 7 and 6, respectively. Docomo fielded only seven players in its game against PSS.

PSS used an 11-man rotation and all of them hit the board. Preston Basa led the team with his 11 points, while Bobby Coldeen and Ray Santos had 10 markers each.

Meanwhile, action in the JP World caging resumed last night with Joeten taking on CUC in the first game and McDonald’s colliding against Shirley’s Coffee Shop in the second match. Results of these games were unavailable at press time and will be reported in Saipan Tribune’s Wednesday edition.
