The Public School System honored yesterday four teachers whose classes were the top achievers in the Standard Achievement Test-10 that was administered last school year.
Education Commissioner Dr. Rita A. Sablan lauded the outstanding performances of Tinian High School educators Regina Palacios and Martina Diaz, Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School teacher Jenny Villagomez, and Koblerville Elementary School’s Tricia Del Rosario. All four were awarded certificates of recognition and were honored by the school system and the Board of Education.
Sablan told Saipan Tribune that other teachers whose students were also high achievers in last year’s SAT-10 will also be recognized to showcase their effective and efficient teaching methods.
Palacios is a mathematics teacher. Her class scored high in 9th grade Algebra during the SAT-10-a staggering 56.6 percent above the national level.
Martina Diaz teaches English 10 World Literature to sophomore students, along with language and spelling. In her first year at Tinian High School, her class took the top spot in the PSS-wide SAT-10. Her class scored 48.1 percentile on language and surpassed the national percentile level for spelling at 59.3.
Villagomez is a sixth grade teacher at GTC and her class aced the SAT-10 scores for language arts in the last three years. Commissioner Sablan said that Villagomez’s class scored 78 percentile in the SAT-10, way above the national level.
Del Rosario is a second grade teacher at Koblerville Elementary School, whose class emerged top in technology and breakthroughs at PSS. Del Rosario’s class, according to Sablan, has been at the forefront of tapping technology advancements in classroom learning.
