PSS high school hospitality certification course enrollment now open
The CNMI Public School System and the Latte Training Academy are currently registering interested PSS high school juniors and seniors into the spring “START” (Skills, Takes and Results Training) hospitality certification course from the American Hotel and Lodging Education Institute. Students completing the course receive globally recognized certifications that they can use to assist them in securing employment in the hospitality industry.
The hospitality classes are delivered over the course of the normal school semester, held on each of the Saipan high school campuses and taught by experienced instructors. The program involves nine hours of classroom instruction with outside reading per week. Students also have the opportunity to participate in a job shadowing component, which provides students with hands-on experience in different hotel departments at various hotel/resort establishments on the island.
To date, Latte Training Academy students have collectively shadowed for approximately 420 hours at number of partner hotels. This program also helps students with their resume writing, interview skills and job search.
“We are happy to report that students taking last year’s spring course are employed here on Saipan at the Hyatt Regency, Mariana Resort and Spa and Pacific Island Club, as well as the Outrigger Hotel and Palm Ridge Hotels in Guam,” says Arielle Buyum, president of Latte Training Academy. “We are looking forward to seeing more of our students get employed in the industry when our fall class graduates later this month. Students who make the commitment and sacrifice to earn this certificate are just the type of potential employees our hotels are looking to interview and hire.”
Representatives from the Latte Training Academy will be visiting all three Saipan high schools between Jan. 12 and 21 to provide students with more information. However interested students are encouraged to visit the organization’s website at www.lattetrainingacademy.com to learn more and register for the spring session. There are only 25 slots per high available, so interested students should sign up soon. Registration deadline is Jan. 22. (LTA)
