The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp., in collaboration with Eucon Medical Services, has invited a certified prosthetist, Marc Kaufman, to Saipan from Feb. 20 to 23, 2017. Kaufman will be on island to help people who had amputations as well as provide education for the prevention of amputations.

A certified prosthetist helps individuals who have had amputations and are in need of an artificial arm or leg or diabetic shoes. Diabetic shoes are specially designed shoes, or shoe inserts, intended to reduce the risk of skin breakdown in diabetics with pre-existing foot disease.

We would like to extend an invitation to those in the community who;

1) need an artificial arm or leg after amputation

2) has diabetes and have callouses or are unable to feel parts of their feet

3) has an artificial leg or arm that they are unable to wear due to cracks in the artificial leg or arm or because of poor fitting.

This invitation is also open to all members of the community interested in amputation prevention education.

To make an appointment or if you have questions, contact local physical therapist Pam Carhill or Lei Hicaro at Eucon Medical Health Services by Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017. They will be able to provide information regarding what you need from your medical provider (doctor, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner) and about insurance coverage.

People may schedule appointments to see Kaufman for amputation care by calling between 8:30am and 6:30pm, Monday-Friday at (670) 233-3647 or email Carhill at swimsaipaneyahoo.com.
