Emon Masonic Lodge No. 179 turned over part of the proceeds from the 2021 Padyakan Sa Saipan to the Saipan Seniors Advisory Council at the Aging Center last June 22.
Emon Masonic Lodge No. 179 leader Leo Cañedo said their donation of $1,000 to the man’amko is in line with masonic ideals of respecting the elderly, especially during this time of COVID-19 when the community’s elderly are the most susceptible.
“The CNMI very much treasures their elderly and as masons we respect and also extend whatever help we can to the islands’ man’amko. We held the recent 2021 Padyakan Sa Saipan event to raise funds for the community at large. This turnover of the donation today is the realization of that promise,” he said.
Cañedo said the Office on Aging is just one of many agencies and groups the Emon Masonic Lodge No. 179 plans to donate proceeds to from future worthwhile events.
Office on Aging director Walter A. Manglona extended his gratitude to Emon Masonic Lodge No. 179 for the generous donation and said the money will be spent to improve and add to the congregants’ activities at the Aging Center,
“Thanks again for this kind and generous donation. Our seniors are truly grateful and appreciative for this kind gesture and for thinking about them especially during this global pandemic,” he said.
Manglona also seconded Deocares, saying that the world’s seniors are indeed the first to be affected and suffer the most by the scourge of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Due to the COVID-19 our seniors are not doing any fundraisers so this donation actually comes in handy. According to the Saipan Seniors Advisory Council president Ms. Genia Draper, our seniors are looking forward to upgrading their musical instruments such as getting new microphones and mic stands. They are also looking into buying some art supplies and other fun things to do while at the senior center,” he said.
The 2021 Padyakan Sa Saipan was held last April and saw veteran cyclist Joel Buco and 15-year-old J.C. Ferrer top the men’s and women’s road bike open divisions, respectively.
