FOR ATTACKING TEACHER:
Probable cause found to charge Tinian Mayor’s Office worker
Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho yesterday found probable cause to warrant the filing of charges of a community worker at the Tinian Mayor’s Office who was recently arrested on allegations that he threatened to kill a teacher for texting his girlfriend, blocking his car with his truck, and trying to side-swipe him to crash his car on Tinian.
At a preliminary hearing, Camacho found probable cause to charge 52-year-old Marcus Genam Untalan with assault with a dangerous weapon, criminal mischief, and disturbing the peace.
Camacho ordered Untalan to answer the charges.
Arraignment will be on June 27 at 9am.
Assistant attorney general Matthew C. Baisley called to the witness stand Tinian Police Detective Shawn Lee SN. Borja, who basically narrated to the court about their investigation into the incident that occurred last May 27.
Assistant public defender Matthew Meyer served as counsel for Untalan.
According to court papers, Untalan used his vehicle to chase the victim, who was in his own vehicle, at high speed, forcing the victim to run his vehicle off the road to avoid a collision.
Untalan also allegedly threatened to kill the victim and attempted to punch him by swinging his closed fists at him.
Untalan also punched the driver’s side of the victim’s car with his fist causing damage to the vehicle.
He threatened to kill the victim and chased after the latter in his vehicle, causing the victim to fear for his life and contract law enforcement, according to court papers.
The teacher told police that Untalan tried to hit his car with his pickup truck, prompting him to drive off the road to avoid crashing. He said he somehow managed to get away and drove to the airport, where he sought police’s help.
