Proa's Marvin Rabauliman splits the defense of Satbahi-Blue Haus during their Garapan Basketball League -IT&E Cup matchup last Monday at the Garapan Basketball Court. (Walter Sutherland) Proa held off Satbahi/Blue Haus, 85-83, in the opener of Monday’s Garapan Basketball League IT&E Cup double feature held at the Garapan Basketball Court.

Proa improved its win-loss record to 3-1, while Blue Haus is still winless in two tries.

Pete Iguel paced Proa with seven points in the opening 10 minutes as his team managed an early 18-17 lead.

Blue Haus, however, tightened up its defense in the second quarter and turned the tables on its rival, 36-32, at halftime.

Proa’s Marvin Rabauliman tallied 10 of his team’s 14 points in the second quarter. Eight different Blue Haus players, meanwhile, had a hand on the offensive end.

Blue Haus kept it rolling after the break and stretched its lead to eight, 56-48, heading into the final period. Blue Haus continued its generous ball distribution, as eight different players again accounted for their points in the third quarter.

Rabauliman came alive with 15 points in the clutch as his team rallied for the lead midway through the fourth quarter, but Blue Haus’ Elgene Mangali buried three treys to keep his team in range.

Blue Haus did a good job using up its fouls to stop the clock and with the ball and less than 10 seconds on the clock had trimmed the deficit to one possession.

In the end, Blue Haus chose to go inside in an effort to force overtime, and managed a good look at the basket, but could not get it to fall.

To its credit, Proa made just enough free throws to escape with the win and Blue Haus struggled all game to find an answer for Rabauliman who led all scorers with 32 points.

Mangali, for his part, unloaded 15 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter for Blue Haus.

In the nightcap, Konflkt-IT&E extended its unbeaten streak to three with 85-75 victory over FGC, which dropped its second straight game to fall to 2-2.

Konflikt-IT&E’s Elmer Esdrelon heated up early and drained a trio of 3-pointers that shot his team in front, 22-12, in the first quarter.

FGC mounted a comeback in the second quarter as Lerio Pagarao delivered eight markers. However, IT&E’s Wowie Abuel and Jawn Joyner teamed up for 11 points that helped their team take a five-point margin, 42-37, at the half.

Esdrelon returned to the floor after the break and added nine more points as his team worked out a 64-55 advantage heading into the final period.

He would add another nine points in the fourth quarter as IT&E buried seven free throws to secure the win.

Esdrelon led all scorers with 27, while FGC’s Pagarao managed 19 in the loss.
