Pride Crosswalk is PCF’s service project
The 6th cohort of the Pacific Century Fellows seeks to resurrect the Pride Crosswalk in Garapan as its service project this year.
The Pride Crosswalk was started in 2016 by the nonprofit group Pride Marianas, led by advocate Frankie Eliptico. It was the first year that the CNMI government officially recognized Pride through a proclamation signing dedicating the week of June 24-30 as CNMI Pride Week.
The original locations proposed for this project were at crosswalks located either by the Bank of Guam and the Garapan basketball court or between the T Galleria and Joeten Garapan. However, because of the rules guiding federal highways, the project was moved into the inner streets of Garapan.
The final locations have been chosen on Coral Tree Ave intersecting between Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan and the Paseo, crossing again at Coffee Tree Mall, connecting the Paseo in the heart of Garapan.
The Pride Crosswalk ribbon cutting and proclamation signing will take place on Friday, June 21, 2019, at the intersection of Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan and the Paseo on Coral Tree Avenue at 4pm. (PR)
