The Northern Marianas Humanities Council is inviting the public to a presentation by visiting archaeologist Dr. Mike Carson that will be held at the American Memorial Park Visitors Center Theater tonight, Dec. 7, from 6pm to 8pm.
Carson will share his recent archaeological research at Unai Bapot of Laulau Bay Saipan, where new excavations findings are adding to the growing knowledge base of ancient Chamorro history.
The newest findings are from an excavation done this past October in conjunction with the CNMI Historic Preservation Office. While the data analysis will continue for another few months, Carson will present on the kinds of artifacts and food remains that have been identified, the apparent evidence about the ancient environment, and the initial radiocarbon dating.
Carson is a visiting associate professor of Archaeology at the University of Guam and a faculty of the Australian National University.
This presentation is sponsored by the Northern Marianas Humanities Council as a part of its ongoing Community Lecture Series. It is open to the public and free of charge.
