Power outages on Thursday and on weekend
There will be power outages in some areas on Saipan tomorrow, Thursday, and this weekend due to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.’s ongoing project to replace wooden power poles with concrete ones.
CUC executive director Gary P. Camacho said one power pole in Koblerville would be replaced and will affect the power supply on Chalan Martinez Road from 3:30pm to 5pm.
Camacho said two power poles will be replaced in Dandan this Saturday and this will cause a power outage on Chalan Monsignor Guerrero from 5am to 10am.
He said two power poles in Puerto Rico would be replaced and this will trigger a power interruption along Chalan Pale Arnold this Sunday from 5am to 10am. Camacho said the wastewater lift stations in Lower Sadog Tasi and Lower Navy Hill will also be affected Sunday.
CUC’s water wells in those areas will not be affected in these three-day period power interruptions.
Camacho said the power interruptions will allow CUC linemen to replace wooden poles with concrete poles at these locations.
CUC’s ongoing hazard mitigation project focuses on strengthening and hardening CUC’s power distribution system by replacing 787 wooden poles with concrete ones.
Of the 787 wooden poles to be replaced with concrete poles, 762 have been made by CUC and its contractor, Camacho said. CUC expects to finish the project ahead of the Feb. 4 deadline.
