Police outline safety guidelines for tourists
To ensure everybody’s safety, acting Department of Public Safety commissioner Ambrosio T. Ogumoro is urging all visitors and tourists to observe the following safety tips:
* Be cautious of car break-ins and thefts. Tourist sites and beaches are being targeted for car break-ins. Never leave anything of value in the trunk of your car, on the seat of your car, on the console, under the seats, etc.
* Downtown and hotel areas are also targeted for purse snatching. Store your passport and valuable items in the hotel’s safe.
Majority of major crimes committed in the CNMI are being blamed on drugs, specifically crystal methamphetamine, the drug commonly referred to as “ice.” One of the Ogumoro’s primary goals is to combat the rampant distribution of drugs within the community.
He has ordered the Drug Enforcement Task Force to step up their anti-drug campaign. Drug investigations and proper evidence gathering should lead to the successful prosecution of drug offenders.
Ogumoro calls on all law enforcement personnel in the CNMI and the community to work together to rid the CNMI of its drug problems. (DPS)
