Please respect our candidates’ properties
The time is here again when we have to exercise our right to vote comes November 2014 in our democratic society. There are a lot of preparations for an individual to make himself/herself known that he/she is seeking for public office such as home visitation, billboards, advertisements in newspapers and radio stations, etc. All these require money and time to make them happen. Those individuals seeking public offices have the interest to serve the people of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands in those specific positions. We admire and respect their decisions.
An example of an individual’s political publicity is billboards on trailers. This type of advertising is flexible and movable. It can be parked at different intervals all around Saipan. Voters will constantly know who the candidates are and what public offices they are seeking.
It was so sad of an incident that happened this weekend of July 12. The billboard trailers of the Democratic Party candidates were vandalized while parked along the Tun Herman Pan Road going to the airport. The destructions are as follows:
1. The trailer for the candidate for governor, Edward Masga DL Guerrero (Tofila) and lieutenant governor Daniel Ogo Quitugua: The CNMI flag was stolen.
2. The trailer for the candidate for Saipan mayor, Antonio Pinaula Mareham: The CNMI flag was stolen.
3. The trailer for the candidate for the Senate, Jesus Ilo Taisague: The U.S. flag was stolen and the flag pole was destroyed.
In addition, there were two casino billboards that were destroyed located along the road past the traffic light intersection in Chalan Piao going up to the Agriculture Station.
Again, just vote for whatever decision your heart tells you but please do not destroy those billboards; respect the hard work and time of the people that erected them.
Whoever is/are responsible for those actions, we humbly ask that you please refrain from doing more destruction to the billboards of all the candidates. Liked I mentioned earlier, these are hard work and costs for the candidates. Please just vote and support for whoever you want but do not destroy the properties of our candidates.
May you find Jesus Christ’s peace and love in your heart(s) and remember, whatsoever you do to the least of Jesus’ brother or sister, you are doing it to Jesus himself. Thank you and may God bless you.

Chairman, CNMI Democratic Party
