Players, coaches nominated to HS All-Stars program
Marianas Interscholastic Sport Organization’s volleyball coaches recently nominated their MVPs and one alternate, while MISO season-winning teams also received their full team nominations for the CNMI High School All-Stars indoor program. This week, student-athletes met altogether for the first time to learn more about the program that they have been nominated to.
Coaches Darcy Wylie, Codie Sayles, J.R. Gechig and Mili Saiki presented on requirements and expectations, fundraising, the initial target competitions, the practice schedule and finished off with a brief discussion regarding the enrollment packet. Approximately 57 of the 60 nominated students were present along with a few parents.
NMIVA president Laurie Peterka offered opening remarks about the dreams of seeing a pathway program for developing next level player skills and talent. The long-term vision is for the All-Stars indoor program to be a pathway for developing an official indoor national team. Wylie carried on with an explanation of how nominees were selected and explained the program’s first target competition. Sayles explained the player point system that will be used to monitor participation in addition to actual skills and performance. Saiki shared her experience and offered her support for how fundraising will work. A big subject was expectations of players, where Wylie drove home points on commitment, sportsmanship, teamwork, and hustle.
