‘Pikaboo’ to face UFC veteran in PXC 45
Uyenoyama, who holds an 8-5 won-loss card, is hoping to bounce back after losing two consecutive matches last year making the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter a dangerous opponent.
Trench Tech Gym founder Cuki Alvarez said his son has been training hard for this fight and had been watching tapes of Uyenoyama’s past fights to carefully study his opponents moves.
“We have our work cut out for this guy who is a veteran [mixed martial arts] and former UFC fighter. He is multi-titled in Brazilian jiu-jitsu where he also holds a black belt,” said Alvarez.
Despite the odds stacked against them, the elder Alvarez remains optimistic of his chances against the 125-pound San Fancisco-based warrior.
“Win or lose, I know my son will learn a lot from this experience. But of course, we are training to win.”
Going up against a former UFC fighter is also sort of an achievement for the younger Alvarez, who someday dreams of fighting in the UFC.
“That’s Shane’s ultimate goal, for him to fight in the big leagues, that is the UFC. And this opportunity will further sharpen his fighting skills and gain the experience that will help him achieve his dream,” added the elder Alvarez.
Pikaboo Alvarez is fresh from scoring a split decision win over Guam’s Jay Tenorio (1-1) in PXC 42 on Feb, 28 this year. It was his third straight win after losing to Robert Wusstig on Dec. 16, 2011.
He now holds a 10-1 won-loss record with three wins coming by way of knockout, three by submission and four by split decision. (Jon Perez)
