Action in the 16th PIC Tennis Championships resumes this weekend at the Pacific Islands Club courts with both adults and junior players competing in 10 events.

In the men’s Open singles, eight players will be battling for the division championship. Moris Villanueva is among them and will duel Dong Min Lee today at 5pm. Other pairings in the 5pm matches today are Michael Ren vs Steven Goodwin, Raj Rai against Robbie Schorr, and Vincent Tudela over Jeff Race.

In the men’s 4.0 singles, it will be Gary Ramsey opposite Donn Dunlop with the date of the match to be announced later. In the men’s 3.0 singles, Nick Villalon will challenge Sean Lee today at 4pm for the right to face the winner in the J.R. Jacinto-Ji Min Woo tiff in Sunday’s finale. Woo and Jacinto will square off tomorrow at 10:30am.

In the women’s Open singles, there are only three entries in Carol Lee, Asia Raulerson, and Isabel Heras and they will play in a round-robin format. In the women’s 3.0 singles, Sakiko Eda will meet Seon Hee Kim this Saturday for the first finals berth, while Erika Tuttle and Chiharu Sato will fight for the other finals ticket.

Meanwhile, in the adults doubles, the centerpiece event is the mixed Open division. Nine pairs will battle for the championship with the tandems of Heras and Race and Villanueva and Mikayla Lopez taking the Top 2 seeds.

Villanueva and Lopez will have their first game tomorrow against the winner of the Friday’s match between the duos of Ken Song and Malika Miyawaki and Dunlop and Marivic Rosario. Also playing today are Tony Kim and Tania Tan who will go up against Lydia Tan and Ken Imaya. Then on Saturday, it will be Heras and Race versus Raulerson and Ryan Cho and father and daughter Dong Min and Carol Lee against Wendi Herring and Martin Jambor.

In the boys U16 doubles, the pairs of Goodwin and Tudela, Kim and Ren, and Schorr and Song will compete a round-robin play, while the boys U12 doubles has the same format and will feature the tandems of Andrew Chung and Min Gi Jung, Rintaro Miyawaki and Richard Steele, and Seung Jin Paik and Daniel Kang.

In the girls U12 doubles, there are only two pairs with Tuttle and Couge Kaga colliding against Maaya Sato and Erie Ortega. In the girls U16 doubles, three teams will vie for the championship. The list includes the duos of Raulerson and Maria Gregoire, Conatsu Kaga and Grace Choi, and Ami Tsukagoshi and Mimi Sakano.
