PIC to host Hafa Dai 5K Fun Run
Pacific Islands Club will be holding its Hafa Adai 5K Fun Run on April 26 and proceeds from the event will go to a good cause.
Speaking at Tuesday’s Rotary Club of Saipan weekly meeting at Hyatt Regency Saipan, PIC sports, entertainment, and activities director Glenn Policare said the event will directly benefit the Salvation Army and indirectly the Public School System
According to Policare, public schools that send the most participants to the inaugural Hafa Adai 5K would go home with $500 in cash and brand new sporting equipment.
He said only one school out of the three public high schools competing will take the prize. The two junior high schools will vie for the top place. The top two elementary schools that participate will go home with the incentive as well.
“This is an incentive for the kids to get out there,” Policare said.
As an added twist to the celebration of spring, volunteers will throw “Holi Powder” on participants at every kilometer.
The colored Holi Powder is colored cornstarch and is 100 percent edible and biodegradable. It is not harmful if inhaled and will not permanently stain any surface.
Participants are advised that cameras, phones, and high tech devices are discouraged at the event as it may get covered in powder.
“You’re going to start off with a white T-shirt and then you’re going to end up like a bag of Skittles when you’re done. It is the most amazing event you will see,” Policare said.
The fun run will kick off at 7:30am and entry fee is only $10. Zumba warm-ups will also be included 15 minutes before the race.
Policare said $15,000 worth of prizes will be given out, including a roundtrip ticket to Japan and the first 50 finishers will be going home with Delta Airlines coupon vouchers.
