Pacific Islands Club proved to have too much firepower against Joeten Enterprises as it cruised to a 101-80 win in the Inter-Commercial Business Basketball League 2015 last Tuesday night at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

In the second game, Saipan Ice used a second-half scoring barrage in completing a 71-59 triumph over Marpac.

PIC completed a nine-game sweep of its elimination round games to cement its status as title favorites, while Joeten ended its season with a 5-4 card for fifth place heading into the second round.

PIC outscored Joeten in the third period to pull away and erect a 71-55 lead heading into the fourth. PIC only led by 5, 46-41, at the turn.

It was smooth sailing from there as PIC just traded baskets with Joeten to keep their opponents at bay.

Ham Hambros tallied 19 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, while three other PIC players finished in double figures.

James Abuy fired four 3-pointers, three straight early in the third quarter where PIC pulled away, to finish with 18 points, while Raymark Castro scattered 14 markers and Sam Rossow ended up with 10 points and 12 rebounds,

Alex Lauron paced Joeten’s losing cause with game-highs of 24 points and 17 rebounds, while also issuing 3 assists and having 4 steals. Rocyl Ritual added 15 markers.

Saipan Ice, meanwhile, still has two games left after beating Marpac to remain in seventh place with a 3-4 record.

Saipan Ice trails IT&E (4-4) by one game and is hoping to win its last two games and the latter loses its last match to keep their hopes of clinching the last berth in the playoffs.
