The Northern Marianas Housing Corp. has opened the public comment period for their annual plan on public housing.

According to NMHC corporate director Jesse Palacios, they have completed the draft of the Public Housing Authority Annual Plan for fiscal year 2017.

The comment period for the plan started last Friday and will last until April 25.

As NMHC is designated as the authority on Public Housing which is authorized to administer the Housing Choice Voucher Program in the CNMI, they are required by the federal government to prepare the annual plan.

The PHA Plan, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, is a comprehensive guide to PHA policies, programs, operations, and strategies for meeting local housing needs and goals.

The plan is composed of two parts, which are the five-year plan, which each PHA submits to HUD once every fifth PHA fiscal year; and the annual plan, which is submitted to HUD every year by non-qualified agencies.

NMHC will also conduct a public hearing regarding the PHA plan during the last day of the comment period at their Garapan office’s conference room.

The housing corporation said the draft of the PHA annual plan for FY 2017 is available for viewing at their main office and at their website, www.nmhc.gov.mp. (Frauleine Villanueva-Dizon)
