Peter Camacho accepted to JSA Georgetown summer program
A 17-year-old senior student from Kagman High School was recently awarded a full scholarship by the Junior Statesmen of America Summer Program.
Peter Paul H. Camacho, who applied for the prestigious scholarship program, was accepted to a two-week court at Georgetown University.
Camacho is the son of Isabel and Joaquin Camacho. He left the island on July 15 to take part in the scholarship program and is expected to be back on Aug. 8. This is his first time to be accepted to a full scholarship.
Camacho is the newly elected president of his school’s National Honor Society and is an active member of the school’s Teen Talk as well as various school clubs and organizations.
Prior to leaving for Georgetown University, Camacho did a lot of research in preparation for his two-week trip. He will be studying speech and political communications in preparation for a future career as a public defender.
The full scholarship is part of the Department of the Interior’s scholarships for the 2012 JSA Summer Schools. The scholarship will pay for his tuition, room and board, and travel expenses.
The summer school consists of outstanding high school students from across the globe, young people who are involved in their communities and schools and have a passion for politics and loves challenges.
Courses offered at the summer program are described as intensive and demanding. Classes meet six days a week and each course meets for a total of 85 hours during the three-week program. Graduation for the summer program is slated on Aug. 5.
