Ed Peter is calling on all members of the Refaluwasch Golf Association to come out and support the second round of the CNMI men’s golf team tryouts this Saturday at the Coral Ocean Point Golf Resort.

“I’m inviting all RGA members to come out and help the team that’s being formed. Help support the team’s cause,” said Peter, who is supervising the five-round tryouts that aim to find the four best golfers who will represent the CNMI in the 2015 Pacific Games in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea from July 4 to 18

“This is an open tryout. Any golfer who wants to tryout can join. But I’m asking all golfers to help the cause until the final day of the tryout since the fee that will be collected will be the start up fund of the team to the Pacific Games,” added Peter.

Registration on Saturday starts at 10am and tee off is at 11am. The times will be the same in the third round on Feb. 7, the final day at COP, as wells as in the last two rounds on Feb. 14 and 21 at Kingfisher Golflinks. In the last four rounds, participants will only pay the green fee and an additional $20 for Team CNMI’s fund.

J.J. Atalig topped the first of the five-round tryouts, which follows a gross play format for 18 rounds, to become one of the early favorites to secure a spot on the team.

The Top 12 golfers after the five rounds will qualify in the next stage where they will play another five rounds. The Top 5 golfers, including one alternate, after the final qualifying stage will make up Team CNMI and represent the Commonwealth in the 2015 Pacific Games.

The golf competition in PNG will run for four days with teams battling for 12 medals at stake in the men’s and women’s singles and the men’s and women’s team events.
