Department of Public Lands Secretary Pedro A. Tenorio has denied rumors that he has resigned.

The former Washington Representative said rumors that he has stepped down from Public Lands or is planning to step down is probably being circulated by political opponents “who should step down themselves.”

Tenorio he has no intention to resign and will only step down if asked by Gov. Eloy S. Inos, who appointed him as Public Lands secretary in the first place.

Acting governor Jude U. Hofschneider’s acting public information officer, Ivan Blanco, said Tenorio has the full backing of Hofschneider and Inos, who is on medical leave in the Philippines, where he just recently underwent a successful routine medical procedure.

“Governor Inos has full confidence in Secretary Pete A. Tenorio. He should be congratulated for taking initiatives to utilize untapped local resources in the interest of the residents of the Commonwealth,” Blanco said in an email to Saipan Tribune.

Earlier this month, Rep. Ramon A. Tebuteb (Ind-Saipan) called for Tenorio’s resignation for his office’s failure to remit Managaha landing fees to the Marianas Public Land Trust.

In an Oct. 3, 2014, letter to Tenorio, Tebuteb said Public Lands might have been unknowingly violating the CNMI Constitution by not remitting the Managaha landing fees to MPLT.
