Pedal for Health this April 24
Saipan Unity Lions Club’s 6th Annual Bike Race will take place on April 24 with over 100 participants expected to take part in the fundraiser.
Organizer Wilfredo Barbo said the race, dubbed Pedal for Health, will benefit the Lions Club’s global causes like diabetes, feeding the hungry, and treating those visually impaired and childhood cancer.
The SULC 6th Annual Bike Race will have two courses. The one-lap long course will take bikers from Banzai Cliff to the Mobil Oil gas station in Tanapag, to the turnaround at the Million-Gallon Water Tank turnaround, before going back north to Suicide Cliff and Bird Island before returning to Banzai Cliff.
The one-lap easy course will have participants negotiate Banzai Cliff/Mobil Oil gas station/Banzai Cliff route. Both course will have categories for men’s and women’s MTB and road bike.
Online registration fee is $21 (PayPal payments accepted) and include an event T-shirt. SULC will be offering cash prizes only to the long course Top 3 finishers in the men’s and women’s road bike and MTB. First place gets $100 and a plaque, second place receives $75 and a medal, while third place takes home $50 and a medal.
Michael Aparte smoked the competition in the mountain bike category of Saipan Unity Lions Club’s 5th Annual Bike Race held in November last year. He finished with a time of 1:18:32. In the MTB short course for men, Romando Lagrio won with a time of 1:04:28. Grace Salindo topped the women MTB short course after crossing the finish line in 1:09:46.
