The non-profit group’s coordinator, Sonia Siwa, said they did their cleanup on Wednesday instead of their regular Saturday schedule so that members of the Saipan Awaodori Team can help clean as well.

Wednesday’s cleanup was spearheaded by eight volunteers from the Kinpachi Restaurant staff, 31 Saipan Awaodori Team members, and two parents of Awaodori members.

Compared to last month’s cleanup, which raked in 1,180 lbs of trash, they had less trash to pick up this time. Siwa said they cleaned up from 9am to 11am.

The cleanup usually includes bush-cutting and trimming of the plants at the Paseo de Marianas. Trash collecting was done near the American Memorial Park and Coral Tree Avenue.

“We also cleaned out the bushes that were clogging the drainage roadside of the American Memorial Park,” Siwa said.

The group’s monthly cleanup collects close to or more than 1,000 lbs of trash.
