Non-profit group PDM Promoters, Inc. is supporting the Division of Environmental Quality’s efforts to minimize stormwater pollution on Saipan by helping unclog trash found in drainage systems during their monthly cleanup activity.

“We decided that through our monthly cleanup activities, we can help DEQ in their campaign to get rid of the trash that blocks our drainage and causes flooding and pollution on our beautiful island,” PDM Promoters’ Sonia Siwa told Saipan Tribune.

Last Saturday, a total of 15 volunteers, including Siwa, took part in the cleanup activity of PDM Promoters, Inc. in the Garapan area. Areas covered were Paseo de Marianas, Coral Tree Avenue, American Memorial Park road from Hyatt Regency to the fire station, along Beach Road from the fire station to DFS, and inner streets in Garapan.

The volunteers also did bush cutting services on the sidewalks of Winchell’s road.

The group collected a total of 580 lbs of trash from their cleanup activity.

Siwa encouraged other businesses particularly in Garapan to get involved in keeping the tourist district of Saipan trash-free to entice more visitors to return to the island.

Siwa thanked Joe Kaipat of DEQ for providing their group with supplies such as trash bags and gloves as well as Dickerson and Quinn for the refreshments.
