PDM Promoters, Inc.’s monthly cleanup of the surrounding environs of Paseo de Marianas collected nearly 9,000 lbs of trash, according to coordinator Sonia Siwa.
She said the largest trash haul happened in January 2016 with 1,180 lbs of trash collected. It was followed by February and November, which were tied with 1,020 lbs of trash collected.
The rest of the months saw PDM Promoters collect the following amount of trash: March (840 lbs); April (640 lbs); May (480 lbs); June (920 lbs); July (600 lbs); August (700 lbs); September (669 lbs); October (340 lbs); and December (580 lbs) for a grand total of 8,980 lbs collected in 2016.
Siwa said volunteers during the year came from Kinpachi Restaurant and members of the Saipan Awaodori Team. On occasion, staff from the Division and Parks & Recreation and policemen assigned at the Koban Station at the Paseo de Marianas also helped in the cleanup.
PDM Promoters’ monthly cleanups are held every Sunday and are supported by the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality. Siwa said BECQ helps PDM Promoters by waiving the trash fee at the Marpi landfill.
PDM Promoters has two major sponsors: T-Galleria and TSL Foundation.
“Their support enables us to have the cleaning materials for our monthly cleanups. Kinpachi Restaurant provides the meal and snacks for the volunteers,” said Siwa.
Volunteers of PDM Promoters will be at it again this Jan. 21 when they conduct their first monthly cleanup of the year.
