Thirty-three volunteers of PDM Promoters resumed their monthly cleanup of Paseo de Marianas last Memorial Day in May 31—one of the rare occasions when PDM Promoters was able to do their activity on a Monday.
“Our Saipan Awaodori members joined us because there was no school. We really motivate and support these kids to work together and take pride in knowing that they helped regain a clean and litter-free community,” said coordinator Sonia Siwa.
She said the cleanup had the volunteers also cutting overgrown bushes as well as picking up trash on empty lots filled with cigarette butts, food waste, and trash on roadways.
In all, the 33 volunteers—made up of 25 Saipan Awaodori members and eight Kinpachi Restaurant staff—were able to collect 580 lbs of trash along Paseo de Marianas, Coral Tree Avenue, and AMP Road and its connecting alleyways.
PDM Promoters’ monthly cleanups are usually held every Saturday and are supported by the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality and the non-profit’s major sponsors, T-Galleria and TSL Foundation.
Siwa said T-Galleria and TSL Foundation’s support enables them to have the cleaning materials needed. Kinpachi Restaurant, meanwhile, provides meal and snacks for volunteers.
