After joining the International Coastal Cleanup last month, PDM Promoters Inc. resumed its monthly cleanup of the Paseo de Marianas and its surroundings last Oct. 23.

PDM Promoters coordinator Sonia Siwa said they pushed through with their activity despite the rain, with 27 participants—19 members of Saipan Awaodori Team and eight Kinpachi Restaurant staff—eventually gathering 1,200 lbs of garbage.

She said the cleanup involved volunteers literally doing a sweep of Paseo de Marianas, Coral Tree Avenue, American Memorial Park Road, and its connecting alleys from 9am to 12pm.

Unlike last month when they were part of the Division of Coastal Resources Management’s islandwide cleanup, volunteers were able to do bush-cutting during the October cleanup as they pruned bushes and trees as well as the usual picking up of trash.

PDM Promoters’ monthly cleanups are held every Saturday and are supported by the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality and the non-profit’s sponsors, T-Galleria and TSL Foundation.

Siwa said T-Galleria and TSL Foundation’s support enables them to have the cleaning materials needed for their cleanups. Kinpachi Restaurant provides the meal and snacks for volunteers.

Volunteers of PDM Promoters will be at it again in November when it conducts its next monthly cleanup of 2021. (Saipan Tribune)
