PBT rush in first swim meet

Personal best times were made one after another during the Northern Mariana Islands Swimming Federation Opening Meet for the 2017-2018 season held last Saturday at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool.

In the first nine events out of the 17 races last weekend, Saipan Swim Club, Tsunami Swimming Center Saipan, and Dolphin Club Saipan members combined for 35 PBTs with most of them (11) recorded in the 50m backstroke.

Tsunami Saipan’s Juhn Tenorio was the fastest in the 50m backstroke with his PBT of 31.31 seconds. Also setting PBTs in the one-lap race were SSC’s Kento Akimaru (32.38 seconds), Jinnosuke Suzuki (35.37), and Michael Miller (58.83) and Tsunami Saipan’s Ashley Dangol (34.37) and Shuman Barman (58.88). In the girls 9 to 10 age group, five earned PBTs: SSC’s Andrei Kaith Lynn Chavez (49.62), Aoi Braxton (51.88), Savita Sikkel (52.35), and Jan Marini Milo (1:09.98) and Tsunami Saipan’s Shoko Litulumar (44.81).

For the first event of the competition—the 800m freestyle race—SSC’s Jinie Thompson and Anthony Camacho-Deleon Guerrero got PBTs of 13:27.77 and 11:07.02, respectively.

Up next was the 100m butterfly and three posted PBTs—all of them were Tsunami Saipan swimmers. Nelson Batallones’ PBT read at 1:06.97, while Aasish Dangol and Aika Watanabe clocked in at 1:20.31 and 1:16.19, respectively.

In Event No. 4—the 100m backstroke—the PBT getters were SSC swimmers and siblings Lennosuke (1:12.69) and Jinnosuke (1:14.95) Suzuki and Tsunami Saipan’s Ashley Dangol (1:14.43) and Asaka Litulumar (1:33.37).

In the 200m freestyle, Dolphin Club Saipan’s Michael Hidalgo and Feliciano Holandez registered PBTs of 4:32.82 and 3:50.78, respectively, while Tsunami Saipan’s Isaiah Aleksenko duplicated the feat with his 2:21.41.

In the 50m butterfly, the Top 4 finishers in the girls 9 to 10 age groups all logged PBTs. Tsunami Saipan’s Maria Batallones led the group with her 44.87 seconds and was followed by SSC’s Andrei Kaith Lynn Chavez (45.93), Braxton (47.30), and Sikkel (51.92). Completing the roster of PBT getters in the sprint event were Aasish (35.62), Kouki Watanabe (41.15), Takeru Jim (53.68), Hans Xu (34.89), Nelson (30.36), and Joseph Zhang (38.22).

Meanwhile, results in the events nine to 17 will be reported in Saipan Tribune’s Monday edition.
