Paying taxes are vital

My name is Sherilyn Beceril and one of my concerns occurring within our government system is the taxes needed to be paid. You see, taxes are for the education of others and the growth of our CNMI. Although, those entering college need to pay for their classes and for the purchase of materials needed depending on what course they’re taking. Yes, the government does provide but the question is, is that enough? Students yearning for education are sometimes forced into a position in where they have to push education aside due to their budget and other expenses. Collecting taxes is for the benefit of our CNMI and others may say that they are the ones who change the fate of others. Although, how may they be suitable to change the future of others if taxes suck all of their money to pay for others instead of benefitting their education/life.

This issue affects everyone, but to relate to this I would like to talk about myself in this position further into the future. I was born and raised here as a U.S. citizen. There is no doubt that I may be eligible for scholarships, but what if I weren’t qualified. I would have to pay for my education and for the education of others instead of focusing on my future and the future of my siblings and parents. I would receive some benefits from our government, but I doubt that it’ll be enough to satisfy for my thirst for education. We (my family) are now in somewhat of a pool of debts to pay off plus for the payment of taxes, which doesn’t really help if I had to be truthful. The government until now hasn’t even covered up the holes in the road, what more the development of our community.

I understand that our government isn’t the best but I just hope that they could try harder to solve this issue. If I were asked to provide a solution to this, I would say that they should provide money to those having an influx of money problems. For example, since Best Sunshine is growing rapidly, they receive lots of profit. Since they want the trust of others, they tried to take care of a portion of payment in our CUC bill, which is needed to be paid every month. Or since everyone is paying taxes, they should provide more of a variety of courses provided in NMC to make it seem like something worth paying for. Any solution to this issue would be much thankful for.
