PAWS, Saipan Cares for Animals join forces

Saipan’s two major animal groups, PAWS and Saipan Cares for Animals, combined earlier this week, as PAWS transferred their non-profit status to Saipan Cares for Animals, creating the new non-profit group called Saipan Cares for Animals, CNMI.

“We are so grateful to PAWS for their help,” said Jason Hudy, who was elected president of the non-profit. “For many years PAWS has done wonderful things to help the island’s animals and with their help in transferring the non-profit status to us, we hope to carry on their good work.”

The non-profit status will help the group with funding, but as vice president Beth Pliscou said, the goal of the group remains the same.

“The non-profit status is a big step forward, but still what we need most are local Saipan residents to volunteer at the shelter, even an hour a week, to walk the dogs and local Saipan residents to adopt these animals and give them good homes,” said Pliscou.

November is “Adopt a Senior Pet Month” and is a great time to adopt a new best friend.

“The Mayor’s Office has waived adoption fees, and the registration fee is only $10, so for 10 bucks you can provide a great animal a wonderful home, an animal that will give you countless hours of happiness as well,” said Hudy.

You can message “Saipan Cares for Animals” on Facebook to set up a time to visit the shelter, which is located in Lower Base down the road from Sparkle Clean. You can also call or message Hudy at 789-9464.
