Patz seizes 2nd Islander Tag Team 8-Ball plum
Patz’s Pat Taitano and Pat Cepeda collected their second Islander Tag Team 8-Ball Tournament title at 19th Hole Bar last Saturday evening.
Cepeda was unable to attend the awards ceremony and dinner due to a death in the family.
The duo took care of business with a 5-4 win over Tasi’s Annie Tesiro and Ken Phillips to finish the season.
The Elaus team of Taylor Watanabe and John Mongami held off hard-charging Rick Rengiil and Norman Tenorio of YNOT, 4-3, to take second place.
YNOT won, 4-3, over Whatever’s Walt Sutherland and Rose Phillips and triumphed over Shotlokker’s Rodney Aldan and William Hurt, 5-3, in make-up games, but could not catch the leaders.
Patz finished the series with 35 points, Elaus 31, and YNOT 30. Oneshot’s Ron Chisato and Ed Suzuki took fourth place with 28 points, followed by IDC’s Quinton Ngirarois and Welson Apaisang, Tasi, Shotlokker, and Watever.
Pacific Amusement provided trophies for the first through fifth place teams, as well as pool cues for a raffle drawing. Pacific Trading, Co. also provided prizes for the raffle.
The Patz team also split $80 in prize money, with $48 going to Elaus and $32 for YNOT.
Saipan Billiards Association members and other pool players were also invited. Rick Elefante of 19th Hole’s Saipan Billiards Association-Obyan division champion Titans joined in the spoils by winning the single-elimination tournament that followed the awards presentation. Apaisang took second place.
Entries are being accepted for the third edition of the Islander Tag Team 8-Ball Tournament. The sign-up sheet is posted at 19th Hole, which is located in Lower Navy Hill. Coming from Garapan it is on the right side of Middle Road just before the Bank of Hawaii traffic light.
