The Patriots Angels drew first blood in the Natibu Sports Association’s 2nd Annual All Girls Fast-pitch League early this month at the Capitol Hill Ballfield.
The Patriots Angels nosed out Balas, 15-14, to complete a come-from-behind win. The Patriots Angels were able to grab victory from Balas despite struggling in the first two innings.
Balas scored five runs apiece in the first and second inning to take a 10-0 lead. Balas added four more at the top of the third inning for a commanding 14-0 advantage.
However, Balas failed to keep the upper hand, as the Patriots Angels worked their way back into the game, starting at the bottom of the third.
The Patriots Angels got five runs in the third inning and tallied three more in the fourth to move within 6, 8-14. The Patriots Angels then were held to one run in the fifth inning, allowing Balas to retain the driver’s seat.
Balas, despite having the lead, was threatened, as it failed to hit the board in the last four innings, while the Patriots Angels made one final push at the bottom of the sixth to steal the win.
The Patriots Angels earned six runs in the penultimate inning to grab the lead, 15-14. They kept the shaky lead and the victory, as they stranded runners at first and second base after the Patriots Angels pitcher caught a line drive from Balas’ fifth batter.
