A businessman was arrested for allegedly throwing a glass on the face of his friend and beating him up during their drinking session at a restaurant in Gualo Rai early morning Saturday.

Kejin Hong, 53, was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.

The alleged victim, Nan Kun Chen, was transported by medics to the Commonwealth Health Center due to a half-inch cut between his eyebrows, an inch-long scratch mark on the right cheek and left thumb, and an inch-long scrape on the left palm.

At a bail hearing yesterday, Superior Court Associate Judge David A. Wiseman imposed a bail of $650 cash and $5,850 in unsecured bond.

Arraignment will be on April 4 at 9am.

Assistant public defender Cindy Nesbit was appointed to serve as counsel for Hong. Assistant attorney general Betsy Weintraub appeared for the government.

Police Detective Therese S. Kintoki stated in her report that, on Saturday at 2:32am, a police officer responded to Oriental Dumpling House Restaurant in Gualo Rai, where a disturbance in progress was reported.

Upon arrival at the restaurant, the officer observed two men standing over the alleged victim, who was sitting on the floor and leaning against the wall.

The officer noticed that blood was dripping from the victim’s eyebrows. The officer also observed shattered glass and cans of beer on the floor.

The suspect, Hong, later came in from the back of the restaurant and told the officer that Chen was too much and that’s why he punched him.

Hong was then arrested.

Chen later told police that he attended a party for a friend’s month-old bay at Oriental Dumpling House Restaurant on Friday.

Chen and Hong were drinking along with three other friends. When they were about to take the last shots of their drink Saturday early morning, Hong allegedly spilled the beer and threw the glass cup on Chen’s face.

The cup fell and shattered on the floor. Chen asked Hong why he did that because in Chinese custom throwing a glass on the face is very bad and a disgrace.

Hong also punched Chen on the face, prompting the latter to fight back. The other friends stopped the fight.
Hong left the restaurant and later came back with his male employee. The employee was about to punch Chen, but stopped when Chen asked if he wants to be involved in the fight.
